How to Make a Wedding Floral Chandelier
Floral chandeliers are suspended arrangements that hang above a reception focal point — usually the dance floor or sweetheart table. They're the most dramatic photo moment of a luxury wedding and the most mechanically complex installation. This guide covers the build and rigging.

Step by step
- 1
Confirm venue approval and anchor points
Get written venue approval, load ratings, and photograph the anchor points. Never attempt without documentation.
- 2
Build chandelier base on the ground
Lay the metal hoop flat on the ground. Attach foam cages around the circumference and across the top. This becomes the 'skeleton' of the chandelier.
- 3
Build greenery base from center outward
Start with smilax vines trailing from the center downward. Layer eucalyptus and italian ruscus around the frame to create the 'dome' of greenery.
- 4
Add focal flowers throughout
Place hydrangeas and garden roses throughout the chandelier, concentrating density at the top and letting clusters cascade downward with trailing amaranth.
- 5
Rig for suspension
Attach rated rigging cable to 3–4 points around the chandelier's top. Use carabiners at all connection points. Never trust knots alone.
- 6
Lift and secure to ceiling
Use a ladder or lift to raise the chandelier. Attach to pre-approved ceiling anchors. Test with a firm downward tug before walking away.

Pro tips
Build the chandelier the day before in-studio. Lift and rig only on wedding day to prevent ceiling damage from overnight load.
Always use rated cable — never use decorative ribbon or rope as structural support.
Photograph every anchor point for insurance records before the event.
Common mistakes to avoid
Using unrated cable — catastrophic failure risk.
Building without water reservoirs — stems dry out within hours.
Skipping venue approval — a $50k+ liability if anything falls.
