Step by step
- 1
Select mixed-height vases
Choose 5–7 vases in different heights (2 short, 3 medium, 1–2 tall). Mixed heights create visual variety across the cluster.
- 2
Fill each vase with water
Fill every vase 2/3 full with clean water. This is important to do BEFORE adding flowers.
- 3
Group flowers by variety
Sort stems into piles by flower type. You'll distribute each variety across the vases to create a repeated pattern.
- 4
Arrange each vase (3–5 stems per vase)
Each vase gets 3–5 stems: 1 focal, 1 secondary, 1 greenery, 1 texture. Keep it minimal — bud vases shouldn't feel crammed.
- 5
Arrange vases in a cluster
On the table, group vases tightly (within 12 inches of each other). Stagger heights and angles for visual flow.
- 6
Add candles between vases (optional)
Adding 3–5 taper candles between the vases adds atmosphere for evening ceremonies. Always use dripless candles.

Pro tips
Mix glass colors (clear + amber + cobalt) for extra visual interest.
3 stems per vase is plenty — more looks cluttered.
Cluster all vases within 12 inches — spread them out and they stop reading as a cohesive centerpiece.
Common mistakes to avoid
Using same-height vases — kills the visual variety.
Cramming 7+ stems per vase — it stops being 'bud vase'.
Spreading vases across the whole table — they need to cluster tightly.
